We, now, have a far better idea of the amount of work that will be required on our boiler, though we haven’t, yet, worked out the full details. The foundation ring has been removed, and non-destructive testing has been carried out to ascertain the thickness of the boiler plate.
As we expected, a large part of the lower inner firebox is getting thin, and will need replacing.
We, also, knew that we had some grooving in the outer wrapper, by the front mudhole doors. Now that the foundation ring is out, we can see how much.
Grooving in the outer wrapper
Another thing that we knew about was some wear and tear to the foundation ring, itself. We can see what is involved in sorting this out, too.
Work continues on the detailed assessment.
